Senior Year Planning Calendar


Summer
  • View virtual tours of over 1,300 college campuses on eCampusTours.com.
  • Take or retake the ACT or SAT, if necessary.
  • Finalize and focus on your top three college choices and begin scheduling campus visits.
  • Meet with your counselor soon after school starts back.

September
  • Begin writing admissions essays.
  • Apply to the colleges that interest you.
  • Investigate scholarships that may be available at your colleges.
  • Take or retake the ACT or SAT, if necessary.
  • Attend college fairs and other financial aid workshops.
  • Politely ask teachers in advance to write recommendations. Check in with teachers you may have asked last spring.
  • Request financial aid information. Pay close attention to application procedures and priority filing dates.
  • Attend a FAFSA preparation workshop in your area.

October/November
  • Register for an FSA ID.
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after October 1st.
  • Submit the admissions applications. Be sure to check deadlines, especially for early admission programs.
  • Intensify your search for private scholarships.

December/January
  • Continue to focus on your admissions applications.
  • Continue to research and apply for scholarships.
  • Send fall transcripts to colleges, if required.

February/March
  • Be sure to meet all admissions, financial aid, and scholarship deadlines.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information from college admissions offices.
  • Complete all requests for financial aid information.

April/May
  • Compare admission and financial aid offers from various schools to determine the right school for you.
  • If possible, visit your top schools once more or attend open house programs to help finalize your decision.
  • Notify your chosen school of your decision to attend and decline admission offers from schools that you do not plan to attend.
  • Submit required housing or tuition deposits to reserve your space at the school you plan to attend.
  • Turn in your final transcript request to your counselor prior to graduation.

June/July/August
  • Confirm that your final high school transcripts are sent to the college you selected.
  • Confirm either in person or by phone that your attendance information is complete.
  • Attend orientation when it is offered at the college you selected.
  • Plan your financial budget for the upcoming academic year.
